Preface to Automotive Electrical Handbook PDF

What is this book all about? Well, let's say you're planning to assemble a kit car, also called component car or replica. You select the kit of your dreams. Then you pick up a "donor" car to provide the running gear.

You layout your tools and round up the other paraphernalia necessary to turn that pile of fiberglass and hardware into a real, driveable car.

If you're only vaguely familiar with engine rebuilding, brake rebuilding, transmission rebuilding, and suspension assembly and alignment, you'll probably visit a bookstore for the appropriate manuals-maybe even one or two of HPBooks' automotive guides. So far, so good.

If you don't know how to do something, you look it up and there's the procedure in black and white. Work progresses nicely-until you realize your dream car is nearly done, but there's one critical thing missing.

Until just this minute, you've completed overlooked the electrical system! With no fire in the wire, there's no heat in the street. started out as a how-to guide for wiring kit cars, you'll find a number of references to VW Beetle and Ford Pinto components simply because they're two of the most common donor cars used as the basis for kit-car construction.

But this in no way limits the application of the procedures to just these two car lines. Nor should it be taken as an endorsement of the original cars or the kits based on them.

So, if you're planning to build a late-model stock car. Chevette-based MG replica, Baja bug, Corvair-powered Ferrari look-alike, rat-motor street rod. or what-have-you, don't worry.

Electric- cal theory and wiring principles apply equally well to your chosen project. know to wire your car from scratch. You'll learn how to select and install electrical components, design circuits, construct and install wiring harnesses, and test the systems.

To enable you to accomplish these tasks, this book also explains the electrical theory, wiring diagrams, and test procedures. It also includes a comprehensive list of suppliers for just about everything you'll need for doing the job.

What if you aren't hiring a car from scratch? Maybe you're restoring an antique or collector car. Or, perhaps you want to replace or repair a tired wiring mess or specific components in your old family car.

If so, you'll find a special chapter on rewiring that tells you how to restore the electrical system to like-new condition. This book also includes several chapters pertaining to selected vehicles-wiring a race car, trailer wiring, and converting a VW 6-volt system to a 12-volt system.

One final note: Because this book started out as a how-to guide for wiring kit cars, you'll find a number of references to VW Beetle and Ford Pinto components simply because they're two of the most common donor cars used as the basis for kit-car construction.

But this in no way limits the application of the procedures to just these two car lines. Nor should it be taken as an endorsement of the original cars or the kits based on them.

So, if you're planning to build a late-model stock car. Chevette-based MG replica, Baja bug, Corvair-powered Ferrari look-alike, rat motor street rod, or what-have-you, don't worry. Electrical theory and wiring principles apply equally well to your chosen project.
